Do you want to be a part of the team disrupting the social impact measurement space while harnessing your technical abilities to work with big data?

Description

We are a startup based at Harvard’s iLab (Harvard startup incubation program) looking for 3 interns for this summer (1 to 3 months’ commitment). Our goal is to increase the allocation of capital to social causes, by measuring the creation of social value of organizations -companies, nonprofits and governments with a breakthrough and disruptive methodology, using public information. The aim is to develop a beta product to be ready by September 2016 that will eventually be the core of a new mission-driven startup.

You will have the opportunity to work with a small and top notch team of researchers, doing cutting edge work which will bring transformational consequences for the fields of both investment and social development. The co-founders of this startups are a PhD student at Harvard and an HBS MBA and leading entrepreneur with successful exit, both with more than 10 years of experience in the space.

You will be working on a module of the algorithm we are building that will leverage Machine Learning techniques and use textual analysis to extract public information about companies.

This is an ideal role for anyone looking at working on big data and machine learning, interested in investment and/or in social development more generally. There will be opportunities to extend this into a full-time opportunity and connecting to other opportunities in data science in startups and more established companies.

Skills and requirements

  • Very strong conceptual and abstract thinking and exceptional analytical skills, ready to tackle a challenge.
  • Experience in web scraping, textual analysis algorithm design and machine learning in Python or R.
  • Ability to work with limited guidance, in a team and to a deadline
  • Passion for social development and investment
  • Time commitment: 1 to 3 months’ internships. 40 hours per week (starting asap).
  • Location: Part of the team is based in Boston and part in Madrid.
